Committee on Public Works, Roads, Bridges and County Property

The function of this committee is to oversee all aspects of public works, including roads and bridges. This would include any County-owned property. This committee inspects County-owned roads and makes recommendations to full Council concerning new roads to be taken into the County Road System.

Committee on Personnel, County Offices and Departments:

This committee deals with personnel matters, rules and procedures concerning County employees. Requests from elected officials and department heads for changes or improvements within their offices, other than finance matters, will also be handled by this committee.

Committee on Public Health and Social Services

This committee deals with any activities that the County may be involved in that concerns public health or Social Services. Several County Members from this committee serve on boards for various organizations, such as the Council on Aging, Carolina Community Actions and Catawba Regional Planning Council. This committee also deals with the Hospital Board and matters concerning Wallace Thomson Hospital, Ellen Sagar Nursing Home and the Union County Emergency Medical Services.

Committee on Law Enforcement, Judiciary and Recreation

The function of this committee is to work with the Sheriff’s Department on any matters concerning that department. The committee deals with the County Detention Center which would include housing and general upkeep and care of all prisoners that are the responsibility of the County. The County Recreation Department and Stadium would also fall under this committee. It would be their responsibility to oversee the property utilized by these departments and to make recommendations concerning improvements or changes to these facilities.

Committee on Planning and Developments

The function of this committee is to work in conjunction with the Union County Development Board to induce new industry into Union County and work with existing industry.
