The County Assessors office is responsible for the appraisal and listing of all properties within the county at fair market value for the purpose of establishing the ad valorem tax rates for the county. The office also maintains up to date records of recorded property transactions, building permits, and tax maps. The assessor is the countys damage assessment official in event of disasters and is responsible for removing or having repaired unfit dwellings and structures in the county.
The office issues building permits, mobile home licenses, moving permits, electrical authorization for mobile homes, agricultural applications, multiple lot discounts, certificates of occupancy, powers of attorney, and assessment notices.
Current tax files, sales listings, fire district lines, appraisal manuals, sales studies, tax maps and overlays, ownership listings, land use records, addresses, soil table maps, and other statistical information are contained in the assessors data base files.
